Shooting in Dallas

What a shoot in Dallas involves

Dallas is about 195 miles north of Austin on Interstate 35, roughly three hours by road. Ryan’s lighting and camera kit travels with him, so a portrait made in a Dallas office is lit to the same standard as one made in his studio.

The shoot happens wherever the work needs it: at your offices, in a store, a restaurant or a hotel, at a location found for the job, or in a studio in Dallas rented for the day. If it suits the schedule better, the shoot can be made in Ryan’s studio in Austin instead.

Crew and travel on the quote

Ryan books the crew for each Dallas job himself. Whether the assistant, hair and makeup, styling and models come from Austin or are booked in Dallas depends on the job, and each role appears as its own line on the quote.

Travel to Dallas is a separate line on the quote, apart from the shoot fee and the licence for the pictures. A headshot session at a Dallas office is the set session price plus a travel fee.

For Dallas clients

What Ryan photographs for Dallas clients

Advertising and campaigns

Campaigns for brands and the agencies that work for them: fashion and retail, food and drink, hospitality and products. Every frame in a set is lit and directed to one look, so the campaign reads as one brand on a billboard, a product page or a printed catalogue. Clients include Koopers Whiskey, Farzam Carpets and Seda Hotels.

Campaign work

Editorial portraits

Portraits for magazines, newspapers, book publishers and authors. His portraits of author Niall Harbison ran in HELLO! in 2023 and The Big Issue in 2025, and two of them became covers of Niall’s HarperCollins books. His editorial work has also been published in The Guardian.

Editorial portraits

Executive portraits

For founders, executives and company leaders who need a portrait for a press release, an award, a magazine feature or a leadership page. Sessions are $795 or $1,495, in the studio in Austin or at your Dallas office with a travel fee.

The photographer

Who you’ll be working with

Ryan has worked as a photographer since 2005. He ran a studio in the Canadian commercial market for fifteen years, made campaigns and editorial portraits in the Philippines and Thailand, and moved his base to Austin in 2024.

He photographs every job himself. The person on the first call is the person behind the camera in Dallas, and the one who approves every final before it reaches you. Some of his clients are in public life, including a United States Army general and a candidate for Congress, and he keeps those clients private.
